  • best brake pads?

I am a new owner of an xs11 special, 80 model 40k miles. has a new M-Cyl. on the front. This thing stops terrible. Doesnt feel spongy, just wont stop, like having a drum brake. Does anybody make a sintered pad for these? I am guessing I need the FA34's I cant find any HH pads anywhere. Any help here?
    Thanks,

Well, these bikes always had better 'go' than 'whoa' even when new, so it may be you need to get used to them.

But you might check to see if the rotors/pads are 'glazed' or if you've got too much drag on the brakes. One thing I'll always recommend if you haven't already done it is to pull/disassemble/clean the complete brake system so you know where you stand. That can clear up problems for the cost of some time and brake fluid. Most times, you won't need rebuild kits. You can remove glazing on the rotors with a brown or maroon Scotchbrite pad, use some 120 grit sandpaper on the pads (use a sanding block so they stay flat).

Organic pads will be a better choice IMHO as they don't wear the rotors nearly as quickly...

Totally agree with Steve. Disassemble and clean everything in the system. The pads on my bike were pretty glazed over as well, I just hub the pads on the cement floor in the garage and that freshens the surface up nicely.
