  • wheel weights

Probably a dumb question, but one I couldn't find an answer too. I jus started mounting/balancing my own tires and was wondering Where you guys attach the stick on wheel weights when balancing tires, seems most of the rim surfaces are curved so the weights don't like to stick real well.

    Thanks,
    Nick

That 'lip' in the center of the wheels will accept standard wheel weights...

Are you talking about the flat square 1/4 ounce weights? Those seem to be too wide to go on the lip in he center. If your talking about the clip on type any idea on a good source, I haven't had any luck.

      Thanks in advance

No, I'm talking about these: http://patchboy.com/mm5/merchant.mvc...egory_Code=3-5

They used to make a motorcycle-specific version of these, but I haven't seen them for years. The above weights will work though... you should be able to pick these up at your local tire shop.

When you go to a specialty tire shop, ask to see the weights for mag or alum wheels. The lips on them are thicker than steel wheels, and the weights might fit with a little reforming of the clip. CZ

I take those square stick on lead weights and trim them down a bit so they'll fit in the proper area. Clean the rim surface with contact cleaner or starting fluid, apply the weight, then give it a few light taps with the ball peen hammer to round it's shape to the rim. Works well for me. If you can find them, they make motorcycle specific clip on double weights that go on the center rib of the rim. With the stick on's, make sure you place them where centrifugal force will push them tighter to the rim, otherwise they will fall off.
