hey! anyone know how the round 81 special speedo comes apart off the bike? just found the bulb i put in for replacement somehow fell into the guage. i see the internal speedo gear needs access, but dont want to break the plastic and cant seem to roll the bulb out on its own without gettin inside!

i got it out by chance with a mini magnet and longnose. unbelievable! not much metal on it to get it.

Good for you. Disassembling the unit itself is a major payne, gotta pry the ring apart and the glass is also glued in.2H7 (79) owned since '89

yeah, pure determination and luck and a mini magnet. originally i couldnt even see it inside, only could hear it rollin around. thats when i grabbed the laptop and sent out a SOS. it looks like its not meant for disassembly. didnt want to break it and then have to re-install my 78Es rectangular guages that i just removed. the 78Es guage lites work but no fuel guage. the t/s, oil and headlite idiot lite unit, whatever u call it, would have to be re-wired cause the connectors dont match. i guess im lucky to have a back up, but unlucky cause the OEM speedo only goes up to 85mph, which is why i swapped em out, but all lights work (now). still sucks! haMax
