  • Will HID Headlight Mess with RLU

I have an HID replacement on order. My Dad just replaced his OEM with the same kit. It worked great on his bike. However, his bike does not have this "reserve lighting unit." Will replacing the OEM headlight on my bike mess with the RLU causing it to activate or light up thinking that the bulb is burnt? Or do I need to follow other members instructions to disable the RLU?

Does anybody have experience with this?

    Thanks

I would be willing to bet it would, not hard to remove though.

Also I would say check you local laws because it is most likely illegal to use those HID kits (is pretty much everywhere else).

Yes, you do need to bypass the RLU. Jumper the blue/black and blue/yellow together at the RLU plug, leaving the others disconnected.

I'll also note that these HID conversions into your existing headlight lens assembly are illegal by all federal and most state regulations... much more info here: http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...ight=HID+legal

Here in Mass I have had my HID for over two years. Pass my inspection with out any issues. The only requirement is that you have a Hi and Low beam. So I use the Bi-Xeon Hid. I did have to remove my RLU.

Don't know about Utah, but here in Ca they are going to start cracking down on the non DOT HID replacement bulbs. There are units that replace reflector and all that are DOT approved for highway use that work for round headlight systems, but they cost like $400 for a single headlight system, but that's what the DOT approved systems start at. Here in Ca it doesn't matter where you come from, if you have a non dot HID setup and they pull you over with it, they will at a minimum ticket you, and very likely impound the vehicle.
