  • Weird Turn Signal Problem

So both of my turn signals were working fine, and then my left turn signal just stopped flashing. When I flick the right turn signal everything works fine, but when I flick left, the front turn signal gets brighter and stays that way, meanwhile the rear one just turns off. They all light up normally when I am not using my turn signals.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

What year bike do you have. It sounds like you have an 80 or newer bike with the emergency flasher and the switch is fubar.

    But.......you have running lights?

This just happened to me on my 1980 SG. To fix it I checked all the grounds in the sockets all were clean. It was the ground in the headlight housing that made it work correctly again. Just make sure all your grounds are clean and that sgould help solve your problem.

I fixed mine by cleaning all the connections in the light assemblies. The grounds and sockets were corroded. I added dielectric grease where appropriate. I also found a lamp with a mismatched part number. My signals work as advertised now. I suggest you start where I did.

            Hi Laser and welcome,
I deduce that your '79 is a Standard but if you built that into a signature line it'd be easier to help you, eh?
Like they say, dead rear bulb or a ground fault; if the signal switch was acting up the front wouldn't work at all.
