I had an old plastic coffee can lid laying around and used that to cut out a few with the template. Works great and will last until I lose them, but I keep forgetting to notch them or punch some holes in it because permanent marker doesn't last very long

I did the same thing, but used a piece of lexan I had. The notch is definitely the way to go, as it doesn't wash off in the oil.

I took some cold roll and welded a nut on the end. Found the measurements online. I then stuck them in my lathe and put notches in them and made them the correct size and everything.

I went to my Yamaha dealer and order me up a new dipstick and then picked it up about a week later. Cost me less than $10 (less than $8 I think), now it sits in my right saddlebag with the rest of my tools (that saddlebag is my toolkit, the other side is where I keep water bottles and bungee cords and such, the trunk is for food and groceries.
