  • Valve shim swap?

I am doing the valve adjustment on my XS1100,(1978), and need to change 3 shims.
    I need 2-260's and 1-245.
    I have a 265, a 270 and a 285 that I can't use.
Anyone want to trade or just sell them to me?
    Thanks

I'm away from home for another two weeks! I know I have the 260's. Try searching on the site, as we used to have a "library" of shims that could be swapped out for the price of postage.

I'll check tonight and let you know what I have. The way it works is, I send you the ones you need, you return your shims to me and throw the $ for my postage in the envelope.

          PM'd ya.
I went through and recalculated my clearences and the 260's will be fine, but I believe a 250 would be a better choice then a 245. But either will work.

          Thanks

By design, the 'Valve Shim Library' is destined to become obsolete. As shims are swapped, the library becomes filled with larger unwanted shims and more often now I don't have what the guys need. I could try to ebay the big ones and use the proceeds to replenish the smaller sizes. Could take some time, though.

I also heard (read) that Kat (wildkat) was running a library. True?

I was able to get the shims I needed from a local shop.
They ordered them from Parts Unlimited I believe.
Cost me $7.95 each. They had to order packs of 5, but the service manager wanted the extras for his shim selection.
Anyway, it is back together and running. Just need to get the carbs sinc'd.
