  • Gas tank question

Hey guys, just got my bike its an xs1100g. When I got the bike the gas tank lock was completely frozen, nothing would get the key to go in. So I decided to just try and pop off the lock, unfortunately when I did everything popped off. Are there any replacements, or even just a simple screw on type. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

One of the sites listed in the links section sells those caps. I don't remember which one though.

Pretty sure one of the caps from Mike's XS should fit. If you send them an email, they may be able to verify for you.

Mikes XS is under new ownership, so things may have changed. In the past though, if you mentioned your looking for parts for an XS1100 and not an XS650, they would all but tell you to go to someplace warm and uncomfortable.

None of Mikes gas caps fit a standard tank anyways.

Is the mounting area damaged? Can you just install a replacement cap, or did the mounts where it bolts in get screwd up, too?

I've got an extra standard fuel cap with key. Not sure of value. Let me know if that would help.

                Just had another thought.

Is just the lock broken? That can be replaced without replaceing the whole thing.

So after seeing the microfiche diagram on a website, I decided to see if I could piece it all back together instead of dropping another 40 on parts. I drenched the whole lock in wd40, tried the key and it actually started to turn enough. So I pieced it all back together and it works now. Thanks for all the ideas and help guys!
