But I bet if it did it would be better than the metal hand crank I got with my old tractor.....1948 Ferguson made in Coventry England....I must tell you that Hand cranks worked on model "A's" and "T's" but I once tried to start my tractor (4 cyclinder 50 HP) with one and that thing kicked my butt....I swear nothing mechanical beat me up that bad since I put a foot down while riding a Honda ATV in 1981..them 3 wheelers were carnivorus...don't ever put a foot down while moving...anyways that tractor back fired and the handle broke 3 fingers and a wrist as well as whacking me in the privates and one knee cap...in a matter of 1 second that thing ruined my whole month...well being Irish descent it doesn't surprise me being attacked by a brit machine...LOL

I have kick started my 78 E. It was rather easy. I did it as an experiment for "just in case". If your battery's weak or dead the kick starter won't help. If your starter fails (and battery's good) then you're getting home.
Cheap back-up that's not in the way.

I used to have no choice but the kick started on an old XT350 dirt bike, that kicking action had to be calculated to prevent return and painful encounter of metal vs. bones.
I just lost the starter button on my 850 so until I replace it, I've been kick-starting it. Real easy, takes less effort than the old XT and no return at all. Starts on the first try too.
When your battery is a few years old and on the verg of one cell going bad giving you a voltage less than 12 but greater than 10 and you have to try to push start the bike because the starter does not turn over fast enough due to the drain on the battery. That's what that worthless kickstarter is for. BTDT
