Hi could anyone help me please.I have a 1980xs11 gwell it says 1980 on the head stem.It is in peices i bught from a mate and have heard it run.I like the look of Adrian(Adie)Rideouts bike in the pictures and would to rebuild mine much the sameIs it just a case of changing the tank to a special tank,single seat and lowering to get the same sort of look.And if so will that modle tank fit my bike.If some one could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.Thanks for a great web sight.

Hey there Ken,
The Special has a smaller tank capacity, but I'm pretty sure it will fit if you stay with the same two years models, 80-81. The petcock system is different, but easily workable. The Special's forks are a bit longer, and it has a leading axle(mounted on the front edge of the lower tubes vs. at the bottom end). This longer fork gives it a slightly higher angle in the front end, pseudo chopper style. But it can be a real pain to swap out front ends, not to mention $$, but since you're talking about lowering the bike then you might want to keep the OEM forks. Folks have even slide the upper tubes further up into the triple tree lowering the front end even more, and attach clamp on handlebars to those extending upper tubes!! The rear tire on the Standard is also 1" taller than the Special, but again real pain to swap out, so easier to use shorter shocks! Sounds like a fun project, good luck!!!
