            Thanks guys love my 80xs1100

Thanks guys good information, A guy who goes to my church drives a 80 Susuki GS1100, he commented on day that "our (mine and his) were the 2 fastest bikes and most desirable in 1980. I also remember the "Cow 1thou" (Kawasaki 1000) I would love to see sales numbers of these bikes. I have had 3 of the Yamaha specials. One was a 1981 650 special, 1982 850 special, and now the 80 XS1100 special. Mine is very quick. Not super fast pick up in low rpms; but after 4000rpm hang on!

There was a lot of hype surrounding the late 70s, early 80s Jap bikes. Few of them were ever the fastest, the competition among the manufacturers was all about 1/4 mile times. The XS's claim to fame is it was the first (and at the time of it's release, the only) mass-produced bike to turn in a sub-12 second timeslip, but only the first-year E model managed that, and it was rather short-lived at that as Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki brought out quicker models shortly after. Yamaha detuned the later XS models, and none of them were capable of better than low-12 times.

I have an article from Cycle World or Motorcyclist that said in 1980 the SG ran a 12.02 1/4 mile-not too bad for a stock bike!Of course that is with a professional rider.I also had a Suzuki GS 1150 ES that was also stupidly fast.

Speaking of stupid fast, when you gonna get that thing back on the road? It's riding season you know, you're supposed to be riding it, not rebuilding it now.
