Yeah, I "hotted up" a few old air-cooled jap motors over the years, have given my xs11 the treatment too. I found out long ago you'll get a certain amount of extra grunt up to a point - then it's serious (expensive) work to go beyond that. The gruntiest bike I rode was a tricked up gsxr1100 (not mine) It had the full treatment - carillo rods, cams, pistons, crank, smoothbores, - you name it. A thrill to ride but was a pain in the ass for the road or street. It was a never ending job to keep it tuned. On a tour my standard gs1000 was a way better machine - the hot gsxr was great for illegal blasts down any straight but the novelty soon wore off (as did the tyre tread!)

Renegade, what I'm trying to say here is that the "standard" hot up tweaks of big-bore, flowjob, exhaust, jets, wont change the xs11's inherent engine characteristics. Dont forget this is a torquey 8-valve 68mm stroke design that redlines at 8500. What it does do is add extra grunt to your already existing power range. To use that extra power for higher top speeds you need to change the gearing. My current xs11 has those mods and more and would probably pull 150mph easily enough as there's tons of stomp between 6 - 8000 revs. But on standard gearing - forget it!
