  • Brake Conversion

Here in Phoenix I've seen one or two old conversions where people have gutted their calipers and gone to purely cable operated brakes. No hydraulics anywhere. Kinda like really big bicycle brakes. Any ideas?

Hydraulics are far more efficient in translating a squeeze of the lever into braking power at the caliper.

By modern standards, XS11 brakes are already marginal for weight of the bike. Most people looking for a brake mod look to stainless steel braided lines for more braking power. Doing anything that lessens the braking power would be dangerous.

All that said, the Honda 750 and lots of other small and mid-sized standard bikes had cable-operated rear drum brakes for years. I think the current Nighthawk 750 still does.
