    Horns

    Almost ready to put Gertrude on the road... Getting ready for State inspection and found both of my Hi tone and Lo tone horns are dead... hooked them to a battery and nothing... Ohm meter shows open circuit. I guess after sitting outside for 6 years they are probably rusted up. Anybody ever take them apart? How about replacements... maybe off a Freightliner?

      You can try adjusting them; the screws sticking out of the back of them is the adjustment, so if you loosen the locknut and turn the screws, sometimes they'll start working again. This will adjust volumn too, but don't get carried away; the louder they are, the more current they draw and you can burn them up...

        even if you can resurrect the stock horns they are pretty pathetic.

          Here's a little mantra that I use to guide me in a situation such as yours.
          "The thing is broken. If it can be taken apart, it might be able to be fixed. If it can't, no loss, since it would be thrown away anyway. I will learn something in the process, so what's to lose?"

            Holy Cow Fred.. That is horn! Actually it looks like it would blow a hole right through a cow..

              Ear Cannon air horn

              I have one of those steble type air horns, aka Ear Cannon, and it does get peoples attention and maybe even make some stain their shorts. It has helped me avoid a couple of what could have been an uncomfortable and painful situations. I mounted it where my air box used to be. I highly recommend one.

                Well, Steve and Zap were right... loosen lock nut and tweaking the screw made them come to life. They are kind of pathetic, but loud enough to piss off the neighbors late last night!
