  • XS '79F Engine Weight ??

I am in a dispute with a trucking company on the weight of an engine that I bought on the site and had shipped. Is there anyone out there that has actually weighted a complete engine? This was a running complete engine with short header pipes. The vin# starts with (2H7xxxx, which is a "79F) though I will take the weight of any XS engines for they should all be pretty close. I will even take close guesses. I need to know how big an argument I can present. The pallet may be the problem and that I can weight but the engine presents a bit of a problem trying to get a good weight. It is now off the pallet and a some point will go into a '80 frame.
    thanks,

I've asked the same question before when I was thinking of taking my engine out. 260lbs is 18 stone and the engine doesn't weight that, IMO. The reason I say that is because later I was given a complete engine, with carbs and I lifted it out of the back of my car and into a wheelbarrow on my own. I don't think I could have done that with an 18 stone weight.

Yep. that's more like it. It felt about 14 stone when I lifted it.

Freight companies calculate their rates on a weight/volume basis, ususlly 10-15 lbs/cft. and charge the higher of the two. If you shipped on a regular 48x40" pallet and the total height was 24", that would give you 26.6 cft. At 10#/cft that would equal a biollable weight of 266# instead of the actual weight of 197 + pallet weight. At 15#/cft the billable weight would be 399 lbs. I would ask to see their rating terms (should actually be on the backof the bill of lading).
