  • Tach needle bounce

    Hey Guys
I have a '79 SF and was wonder if the tach bounce is a problem in the tach, wiring, or coils. I love this bike. Bought one in 1980 with a 1000miles on it sold after 3+yrs and 17000miles. Who would think that I got this one from the same guy I sold the first to. Even the same color, just no bassani super pipe header though.

    thx

The coils don't come into play with the factory tach. The tach gets it's signal from the alternator. I would start with cleaning the alternator connections behind the fuse panel. It's a plug with 3 white wires. That plug seems to be the connection most prone to corroding.

Is tach "bounce" the same as tach "wobble"?

In any case I've heard of or seen on this forum, the wobble was cured or lessened considerably by taking the tach apart fully and putting just the right amount of silicone lube in the bearing area of the tach motor.

The tach wobble I am familiar with has nothing to do with the alternator?

Search for "tach wobble" and you should find a good selection of posts/threads to read about it.
