  • Tank Trim?

I am looking and trying to find some trim to cover the welded seam on the tank. I know there is gold stuff for the MNS's but I am trying to find some black trim, anyone know where to get some one it?

    trim

Hi Nathan,,,,I went to a local PepBoys, auto store, and picked up some black trim with the slit, and it went right over the seam my xs and xj tanks. THey sell different colors, widths, styles. I think it is used to line the edge of doors to stop paint chipping. Its been awhile but it was cheap, maybe 5 bucks at the most. It should be easy to find at the larger auto parts stores.........good luck, Mike in SUn DIeog

I got the OEM trim off EBAY, not too long after that I saw a pic of a black XJ like mine trimmed in silver. The silver adds a nice curved line and just for the heck of it I may go buy some.

Does the oem stuff cover the entire seam or just part of it? I want to cover all of the seam, front to back.

The OEM trim only covers the front of the tank...

The OEM trim is a bit funky... it won't stay on by itself, there's supposed to be some little metal clips with barbs that grip both the tank and the trim. If the door edge trim works out, let us know...

I do have three of those little clips that I pulled off before I painted, figures that was what they were for.

When I get time I will check around.d and see of anyone locally has bulk rolls of the trim, I don't want seams.

I used screen trim as sold for sportsbike screens. Like this stuff

It's 'U' shaped, glued inside, soft enough to bend in the right places and this pack was also just the right length (36 inches). It comes in Silver Chrome colour, Gold chrome colour (for you MNS owners) and Black.

                      Plus, it's cheap.

Door edge trim worked great. NAPA part number 730-1901 is a 15' black roll for about 9.50. Need about 80" to do a whole tank so I couldnt get the precut door strips and had to go with the larger roll, it was actually cheaper to go with the 15' roll anyways.
