So i got a used headlight bucket but i am confused on how the headlight is secured to it. I belive ther is suppose to be a ring that attached to the front of the bucket and if so does anybody know where i might find one?

Yes, there's a ring. And that's not only the 'trim', that's also what supports the headlight lens assembly. If you have the OEM square headlight bucket, you'll need to find that trim and its matching headlight. They're getting a bit hard to find (none on eBay right now), check the 'parts for sale' forum or post it in the 'parts wanted' forum...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

Well, the upside is, you have a round headlight and those are much easier to find. The downside? It's not original, so you may have a tough time getting the correct parts if you don't know what bike it came off of originally.
You might check and see if there's a stamped number on it someplace; sometimes you can match them with that info. Otherwise, the best choice may be to just get another complete 7" headlight...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two
