1980 XS11G 22XXX miles.

Easy fix for those Trey.......run the slotted top-side across some emery paper set flat on table or whatever to get past the burrs, take a dremal with a cut-off wheel and re-slot. Got alot of distance to mess with there, so don't worry bout that. Slotted screwdriver side will look and work like new!.....don't forget to replace the teeny o-rings and make sure the teeny washers are there. They are also available as a Suzuki part # same as the o-rings. Ran into an interesting problem. When cleaning the pieces of number 4 i was looking into the "Main screw" (the carb cleaning 101 thread calls it that or a seat for the needle in the diaphragm assembly.) When looking into the top (where the main jet came out of) there seems to be the remnants of a broken off main jet. I imagine i should try and get it out of there but I don't know how. So...what should i do?1980 XS11G 22XXX miles.

hi trey,
just to let u know, when u have fuel leaking into the crankcase/ or
leaking out of the air box,
u either have a leaking needle and seat or u have fuel leaking
from the 'o' ring around the seat.
im not to sure what u mean by the main screw, i think if ur
refering to the emulsion tube, the top cap and slide diaphram need
to be removed, with the carbs upside down and the main jet removed
u can then tap the emulsion tube, using a wooden dowel, or i use a
phillips screw driver and push the emulsion tube out, it comes out the end
the slide goes into.

Ok, as to new pilot jets, you have a number of options. You can go to your local yammie dealer and pay about $4 a piece for them - make sure you tell them to get the BS30/96 style and NOT the VM or N151 style!!! If your looking for all new jets for the carbs, the best and most economical option I know of is to go to Ebay and find seller by the name of Georgefix. Let him know the year of your carbs and he will make sure you get the right kits to jet them for stock.
As to the piece of a main jet stuck down inside your emulsion tube, assuming this is what your saying, that where the main jet screws in under normal assembly, there is a small piece of something stuck down in that hole? I would use a pick or somthing like it to try to dig it out carefully.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

The needle jet is a separate piece from the slide and diaphram, it is mounted in the slide, but it will come out. A bent tip is not a good thing....ever So you need to straighten the tip as best you can and or get a new needle jet.
If your main jet screws in nice and tight with the threads as is, I would not worry to much about what your describing.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Trey, is the piece of broken jet tip still threaded in the emulsion tube or is it loose inside the tube?
If it's still partially threaded and the new jet was just screwed down into the emulsion tube on top of the broken piece then you might be able to back it out and remove it with a small metal pick, a small left-hand drill bit or, as a last resort, an EZ Out. Be careful. The emulsion tube and broken jet are both made of brass so they're soft and they can get mangled quickly and jam. EZ-Outs are made of hardened steel that is stupidly EZ to snap off in a hole, especially the small EZ Outs like the one that would fit in a broken main jet tip stuck in an emulsion tube, and they're not so EZ to get out when they break. Also, EZ Outs expand whatever they're put into and the broken jet tip would jam in the emulsion tube threads in a heartbeat.
If there is actually piece of a broken off threaded jet tip loose inside the emulsion tube you might not be able to get it out at all. Unless it's a very small piece none of the holes in the emulsion tube are big enough to get a complete broken jet tip through them.
You might be able get the threads of the broken tip to sit just right and start them back into the threads in the emulsion tube. Then you can try to unscrew it. If not then it's basically stuck inside the emulsion tube forever.-- Scott

Either way, gotta get that piece out. Needle won't reach jet in proper taper location.
