  • MUST SEE-How ignorant some people can be!

Was just browsing around the internet looking for anything to read about our XS's and came across this joke of a coversation. Thought some people would get a kick out of it as I did. Just goes to show you, some people have no taste in real bikes.

Hope you enjoy, wish I could have posted on it when they were having the convo, of course I didn't own mine yet

Those XS1100 are total junk. Bad transmission, heavy, etc. They should just give them to me.

LOL, funny stuff. Loved the chain comments. I also liked the guy who said "rock it stock till it falls apart, then sell it to an idiot. then get a real bike." Let's break that one down:

"rock it stock till it falls apart" - Good luck with that, let us know how that works out for ya.

"then sell it to an idiot" - This idiot would be happy to take it off your hands.

" then get a real bike" - Says the guy who doesn't even ride currently.

Glad to see some people getting some enjoyment outa that. Nice little tid bit to stumble upon. And yes the chain comment was probably one of the best. And the durability comment.

I had some errands to run today and used my XS11. I left it parked on the town square. When I came back to it, there were a couple of fellows looking at my bike. (There were Harleys parked on the square not getting any attention) One man liked my bike and wanted to hear it run, the other told me how he had owned several XS11's and had turbo charged all of them. He told me about extending the swingarm and shaft for drag racing back in the day.

There are some folks who "get it".

One thing about this forum... it has got rid of a little prejudice that I had about our US cousins. I thought you were all nuts about Harleys and 'patriotic' about the good ole American sickles. For years, as I burned them off on a succession of XS1100's, watched them stop in the rain, heard the engines go bang as they engaged two gears at once and irritatingly heard one or two slowly pass my house making more noise than a light aircraft, I asked myself "why do the Yanks (no offence BTW) like them so much?" Now I know you don't

They are astonishingly expensive here and we used to call them 'Harley Worthit's'. Someone I know went to Germany on their honeymoon on a brand new one. The happy couple returned a week later with the bike on a low-loader. When I said how disappointing that must have been, the new wife said "Not really. Riding a Harley is a way of life really". Mmmm.....

Conversely, I went all the way across Europe from Scotland on my XS1100. Holland, France, Germany, Luxembourg.... down the Loire valley looking at all those chateaux. Down the French autoroutes fast, no speed limits on the German autobahns etc.....my XS1100 never missed a beat and apart from a puncture, no mishaps whatsoever. Never even burned a drop of oil. So our chum in the conversation thing might have a long wait for the XS to break....

Harleys are good quality machines now days, if that's your thing. I have friends that tour on them. Our friend Brent, on this forum, has nearly 200K miles on his Harley. I find that they are made for people of shorter stature than me, so I never rode one that I found particularly comfortable. Biggest drawback with Harley....slow. Same wind in your face though. Ride on!
