What year and model is your bike. You may want to edit your signature to include that info in it, can help ALOT with answering these types of questions.

Here, that's a '78-79 standard seat (elsewhere, the standard remained basically unchanged from the '78 version, so you'll find overseas G and H versions with this seat) and won't fit any other model without extensive mods. The US model bikes used different seats for different years/models, so seat swapping can be a bit tough...

If you have a '78-79, check the 'parts for sale' forum here or watch eBay.

        '81H more parts...

Cage: '13 Mustang GT/CS with a few 'custom' touches
        Yep, can't leave nuthin' alone...

sorry i meant to mention that its a 1980 standard. I hate the huge bucket style seats I see on these bikes. I'm hoping to have my final product looking like a cafe style bike so the giant bucket stuff just doesn't turn me on. I want something that looks really clean and simple and without having the passenger section raised higher than the main part of the seat.

Could take your current seat to an upholstery shop and have them shave the foam down to your liking and recover.

no because the original seat is missing and it's been replaced with some "mustang HD" seat that is literally zip-tied onto the bike. Pretty comfy seat though haha. This is it.

The only XS that came with those 'bucket' seats was the '81H; all the rest you see are conversions on the stock pan (and there's a lot of 'em out there..). The only seat pans that will fit your bike without major issues is the '79 Special (may need minor trimming to clear the standard tank) or the '80-81 standard pans. To use the '78-79 standard seat, you'll have to either move the TCI to the rear fender, or cut in a 'relief' in the pan for the TCI, as the seat will hit it where it's mounted now. You'll also end up with a big gap above the sidecovers.

That aftermarket Mustang seat should be worth a few bucks, so find out which model it is before you sell it. You should be able to find that info on the Mustang site...

well i went and took the seat off and it has a number and the HD logo stamped on it but when i googled it apparently there are tons of seats with the same number on it and i didnt see anything looking like mine...the stamped number says RDW-92/61-0067 other than that there are no mustang logos or anyhting like that...not sure where to go from here

If it doesn't have a 'Mustang' logo sticker on the underside, then it's probably not a Mustang brand seat. Is the seat pan plastic, metal, or fiberglass? If it's plastic and has the HD logo, it's a OEM Harley seat and not worth too much. Metal or fiberglass would be aftermarket for sure...

It looks like a Dyna solo seat to me, but could be a Softail unit too.

Does that include the little tail section there or would it just be the padding part of the seat?
