  • Starter Button

    I was going for a ride tonight and after a short stop, got back on and noticed my starter button was missing. The spring was still there and luckily a small rock was sufficient in starting the bike. Anyone have a fix/solution or a place to pick up a new one? Thanks,

      I just got some metal ones from here and they look pretty trick, haven't tried them yet, they also have plastic. They will fit our 1100's...

        Grind the rock to fit nicely.......

          How did the rock work?? The one end of the starter button is the contact point that completes the circuit??

          Not sure how, but if it worked, good on you!

            My button has been missing for years and I now consider it to be part of my security system, LOL. I just stick a key or a screwdriver in there. Rock on...

              Yes it is..........but not the button itself.....

                Food for thought.
                The spring is part of the circuit for the starter solenoid, completeing to ground when the center terminal contacts the metal tip of the button, which contacts the spring, which contacts the metal plate which is fastened to the ground in the handle bar. (And the music comes out here)
                The point is, that the spring can get jammed between the contact and the ground, and even though you have pulled you anti-theft starting key out of the hole, the starter is still ENGAGED.
                Embarrassing, it is. And possibly costly.
                And when it happens, you have to pull a fuse to get it to stop, or disconnect the battery, since there is a bypass in the wiring. DAMHIK
                Yeah, thats what I felt like, a damn hick. Anyway, just don't get the spring cocked.
                Better yet, get a button. CZ

                  Cap'n, your post made me go to the garage and look at my bike. No spring in my starter button housing, nothing that gets pushed in, just an empty socket.

                  I use the key or screwdriver to complete the circuit by touching the copper contact point and the metal body body of the housing. Works fer me...
