Did the spark plug wire replacement procedure

Spark plug wires on my 1979 1100F are original and crusty. I had to trim one back so far to get away from corrosion it was almost too short. Anyway I followed the steps and ground away at the housings to reveal the oem wire. I did have to take a long thin flat screwdriver and clearance around the peg in the coil so my new wire would shove in all the and and seat. I used Permatex black (I already had it) as a sealant and adhesive for the fresh wire. New wires and new plug caps and the thing runs even better than before! (Ran very well for hardened corroded wires to boot) Shame on Yamaha for having the plug wire molded into the coils. (My 1978 XS750E had the wires replaceable.) Thank you XS11.com for the money saving and sensible tip! Clutch material inspection and new springs are next.

Just curious as to what brand of wires you used?I did the outer coils because they don't have the angles as the inner plugs and am yet to find any set that have the angle i need.Auto parts stores now keep the wires in the back away from people and are auto specific.

I bought a 6 foot roll of motorcycle specific wire from Dennis Kirk for $3. Then I installed new screw on/in NGK resistor caps on the spark plug ends. Be aware cycle wire has a braided wire strand center that is needed to encapsulate the pointed metal post it will press over. Solid core wire like the universal Accel wire does not work well. The solid wire will merely OCCASIONALLY maintain contact with the metal post in the coil. Dealerships sell the wire by the foot as well as mom and pop shop cycle repair shops and maybe a NAPA.

And these in the correct angle configurations. About $3 for each cap and 3$ for the roll of wire. $7 ish for shipping.

The Accel kit i got has the boots molded in the wire so i don't have to worry about pulling the wire out of the boot.Still want to do the inner plugs.
