  • UK and U.S. pinstripe

Does anyone know if the gold pin striping decals on a '78 standard from the U.S. would be the same as a UK version of this bike? I have some pin striping application to do on my '78 standard restoration and I found a full decal set located in the UK. Doesn't the UK version have decals where the U.S. version would have badges? As in the tank and side covers. Beyond that is the rest of the striping layout the same?

I'd much rather invest in a decal set over trying to use striping tape.

Thanks for any clarification on this!

I've eyed the same sets, and as far as I can tell they're identical except for plastic emblem vs decal thing. Striping tape would be cheaper, but that set would be far less hassle. One lister here has used that set, and had a very good report on it...

Yes, 'twas I that used the decal set from Classic Motorcycle Decals. You're correct... the European bikes don't have badges, just under the lacquer decals. I prefer these as they don't get gunged up with wax etc. when cleaning the bike. It's a matter of opinion, of course, but I also think they look nice because they're understated and not flash.

The pinstripe is accurate and I'm not sure if you know, but one of the lines is thicker than the other (and supposed to be like that). Also, the UK decals are thin and this is a good thing. Cheap decals are thick and it's very hard to get them under the lacquer coat. These decals are the best there is.

PS my bare feet really don't look like in pic 3!

Thank you for the pictures, it's nice to be assured the decals will be correct! Kind of a tough price tag to swallow but at this stage of my restoration... what's another 140 bucks! (and I still have the exhaust header pipes to re-chrome... 300.00 more! ) As Steve pointed out, these will be so much nicer to apply v.s. striping tape. Do you have any pointers for applying the decals?

                  Thanks again!

Yes, much better than striping tape. I don't have any tips on applying them though as I got a spray shop to do it for me! He's the guy who said they are fantastic quality. The same seller also has a huge range of OEM replica decals, oil labels etc etc. I bought two oil ones for middle gearbox and FD. They're excellent
