  • Vetter turn signal always on

Noticed in the dark of the garage that the reason the left turn signal doesn't blink is because it is always on.

Anybody have any ideas on this?

    Thanks
    Bob

I have a vetter on my 78E. They lights are always on because they act as running lights. I believe the lights were supposed to do this. Just an FYI.

If it's a vetter 4 or 5, they are running lights and should be on all the time, but should get brighter when flashing, if the other doesn't light up that's something wrong there. Check the bulbs, the socket should have two connectors in it and should have 1157 type bulbs, this applies to both of them.

Both lights are on all the time but the left one is much brighter than the right one. The brightness of the two matches only when the right signal is on. I'm pretty sure the left signal is constantly on. My electrical prowess is lacking at best (as some of my other posts here can attest to).

I'll play around some more and see what I can come up with.

Just a thought but are both bulbs the same?

It sounds like your running light connection is connected to the turn signal filament in the bulb, and vice versa. Try switching the wires on that signal.

Your running light is one filament, the lower one IIRC, and it is dimmer. It remains on when the turn signal flashes, but the signal filament is much brighter, drowning out the light from the running light.

Along those same lines, something else just occurred to me. The 1157 bulbs are only supposed to plug in one way, but sometimes frustrated folks force them in 180 degrees off so the wrong filament is firing from the wrong connection. Check to make sure the bulb is plugged in correctly.

Also, if someone messed with the bulb socket and pushed the wires up the connectors can rotate at the bottom of the socket so when the bulb is plugged in it does not connect with the connections correctly. This is less likely, but I have done it do I know if can be done.

When I get home I'll check bulbs and cxns as you guys have mentioned.

But the sun has come out and the rain has stopped. First thing I do when I get home is go for a ride
