    hi kevxs,
    nothing wrong with doing that,
ull just have to calibrate the guages
    before use.

Would work fine . Just be sure to find a way to hook them altogether to 1 vac source to be sure they are all calibrated to read the same before you use them individually. Of course you will still need to dampen the hoses.

      Sorry Pete, was typing.

yeah i thought there was more to it than just hooking up 4 gauges, can you explain further? i've never worked with vacuum gauges

no worries tex, happens to me all the time. :-)

i use the bikes engine to do mine,
          others use a mity vac.

          with the engine running,
connect a vac line with an aquarium restrictor to the number
1 intake ( u can use any cylinder as long as its the same 4 all 4 guages)
connect a guage and note the reading,
close the restrictor and connect the next guage,
if the readings are different, unscrew the glass cover and ull see
a adj screw on the face plate, adj til the guage reads the same as the
previous one and all are the same.

Without some sort of restrictor, the gauges will fluctuate too much to be able to read them properly. Carb sync gauges have an inline adjustable valve damper to accomplish this. IIRC, you can buy these adjustable in line valves where they sell aquarium supplies. Some people have had luck stuffing an old carburetor pilot jet in the line(s). Basically, there must be a part of the vacuum hose that has a pinhole orifice in it to regulate the flutter of the gauge.

If you don't want to visit an aquarium store, I got four little inline valves at Home Depot. They were meant to be used in an automatic sprinkler system, I think, but they work just fine. Before that I put C clamps on the hoses.

You can set the valves low enough that the gauges will operate smoothly, but I would suggest you leave the valves open enough to allow the gauge needles to bounce just a little. That way you can make sure there is air making it through. The amount of bounce you allow should be equal across all four gauges.

I'd suggest saving your money and effort and just buy one gauge and then hook it up to all four carbs with valves in each line. Then you know its always "calibrated" the same. You just go down the line opening and closing each valve. Thats how I do mine!

I dunno... Having 4 separate gauges (or at LEAST 2 of them) all working at the same time makes adjusting the carbs a LOT easier IMO. You just look at two if them and adjust, watching as one goes up and the other goes down, until they meet in the middle. If you're only using one gauge, it's harder to see if they've met in the middle.

I bought a set of 4 gauges paid 53 dollars, pretty good deal to me, of course the only down side is waiting that 3 business days.

I was really happy with the way it worked.
                    heres the info.

The little plastic restrictor valves can be be found almost anywhere they sell drip irrigation supplies. Typically they are sold in multiples in little bubble packs.

They are also sold for aquarium use to regulate air. Buy them local. You can find higher quality brass valves (expensive) there as well.

Just to give you an idea.
