It works!!

It actually works. Don't know why I'm surprised...with all the help here, I couldn't go wrong.

Had everything hooked up and ready to go last night. Tried and tried and tried till I almost killed the battery and it just wouldn't start. I had bad gas...so I went inside to.....you don't need to know that.

Put the battery on charge over night and drained the tank this morning. Put fresh gas in it and it sputtered a bit but finally got going. Smoked like crazy out of the left pipe but let it run for a few minutes and even that cleared up.

Unfortunately had to then go to work and as I haven't finished installing the fairing, couldn't take it for a ride. That'll happen in a few hours when I get home. I still have some work to do on it...synching carbs for one but it's running.

It's supposed to rain tomorrow and I don't have any rain gear, but hey, what's a little water!

Thanks for everybody's help. Literally could not have done it without the fantastic help on this forum!

That first start is always exciting and a little nerve wracking. Did I remember to tighten everything? Is oil going to spew out of every possible place (and a few impossible ones too)? Will gas start leaking and it catch on fire? Will an oil passage clog and my motor self-destruct in seconds? Did I even put any oil in it?

Fortunately I have been witness to all of those. Good learning experiences for sure!

Glad it went well for you! Did you run around in circles, punching the air and yelling, "Hell yeah!." That's what I've done a couple of times.

Now get back to work, finish that scooter and take it out for a ride. You deserve it.

Hey mine too!

I finally got to ride today and put 70 miles down. but im having some clutch slippage, and a few other things but this is my next task. I rode up to autozone and picked up some sea foam to put in the oil. Will this help with the slippage? or am i gonna have to replace more parts? If so whats is a good link for plates and springs. If im gonna do it i want it done right. Is there any brand that i should not buy? Also how long should i ride with the sea foam in the oil? I'm gonna ride tomorrow with my dad and brother, and i dont want to put to many miles on her with the foam if it damages anything.

You do NOT want to do ANY RIDING with the seafoam in the oil. You only want to bring it up to normal operating temps idling or just above that ie. 1500 rpm, and work the clutch, gears. Then DRAIN the oil/filter and replace with new.

Have you done the proper clutch adjustment at the ENGINE side,not just the handlebar slack? Also, if you're using full synth oil, that can contribute to a weak clutch slipping vs. Dino oil. Depending on how old the bike/clutch is, it's more likely that you'll just need to replace the Springs with newer HD(heavy duty) style than to replace the frictions. While in there, pulling the basket, cleaning the steels with scotchbrite or very fine steel wool or emory cloth...mostly to remove the varnish from the steels surface. Then measure the frictions...min thickness is 2.80 mm, max is only 3.0mm! Most folks have reported that their plates were well within specs, but their springs had sprung/compressed below spec length! Also...remove the lube the clutch CABLE...they can also get very tight and can not fully release contributing to the slippage as well!

i wouldnt go riding the bike with seafoam in the oil
it can dilute it and u run the risk of internal engine damage,
run the bike for about 10 minutes at idle to let it circulate thru
then change the oil.

the sea foam could help with the slippage, depends what causing
it to slip in the first place, modern engine oils can cause it, along with
the clutch being out of ajustment, weak clutch springs and worn fibres
can cause slippage as well.

theres a cpl of mods that can be made to the clutch, an extra steal
can be fitted in the clutch pack, also washers can be fitted behind
the clutch springs to place more tension on the clutch pack, both these
mods do cause an increase in the levers action but work well.

change the engine oil, adj the clutch at both ends and see how that goes.

Ok thanks for the response. I didnt put any seafoam into it until i heard what you guys input would be. Im useing rotella 15 40 i think... anyways what oil are you using? What runs best i guess.
