  • new carb boots

Haven't been around for a while which means nothing has broken lately but it looks like ye ole carb boots need replacing, the SF seems to be running kinda lean and discoloring my pipes. here's the question. Who's boots to buy. there are three different sellers I have seen on EBAY, George Fix run about 97.00 but there are others that run about 70.00 Anybody got a take on one over the other? Fix claims his are made by the original supplier to Yamaha.

Parts-N-More got new ones to me very fast. They claim they were made in Japan.

Andreas probably has good used ones.

Sirius Consolidated lists them at $65, which is probably why they're out of stock. The one time I purchased from them, they were very fast and the quality was very good.

Hi everyone! I'm brand new to the forum having just acquired a 1979 XS11 standard. Needs some repairs, but shouldn't be too long until it is road ready! I was wondering the same question regarding the quality of carb mounting boots - glad to see the responses! Another somewhat related question: This bike hasn't run in a number of years, so a carb rebuild is in order (necessity!) - has anyone had to tweak the jetting to compensate for the evils of Ethanol? Any know problems with the carb internals from the evil substance?
        Thanks!

Welcome aboard! There have been many discussions about ethanol, and its effects on engine components. Engines and carbs need tweaking regardless of the enthanol, so just do the carb cleaning, sync and tune, along with a valve adjustment, all while using whatever fuel you regularly use. That will tune the engine to your environment (which includes elevation) and you'll be very happy with it. Generally, if you have a stock bike (no pods or aftermarket exhaust), no special jetting is required to compensate for ethanol.

I bought mine from George Fix 2 years ago. Working just fine. After looking at the inside of the old ones, I could have put them back on and put some sealer on them if I wanted them to look nice. That was before I really knew what I was doing. I was worried that they would not take the abuse of constant removal of the carbs that I was doing. I thought they would tear. Kim
