  • crimp bolt on rear wheel

Hi everyone first and formost thank you for your help. I took my back tire off to get it changed. the shop wanted 65 to take it off 20 if I did. Well when I was putting it back on I went to put the bolt in that crimps the axel on the side (one side has the castle nut, the other crimp) Well as I was giving it the last little grunt it broke. I am trying to get the broken part out with and easy out but will not come out. How crutial is that crimp bolt? Is it safe to drive?

it is important! that bold is what's gonna hold your swing arm firm on both sides. I would absolutely not drive it without that bolt.

That bolt tightens the swingarm into a firm position on that side. Think of it this way, when you turn the bike and put the side force on your tire, it will want to push the axle through that opening which could let wheel move within the swingarm. Will it, well, I have my doubts as the swingarm is pretty dang stiff. But, if it were me, I'd fix it before riding.

I forgot to put that bolt in once when I changed the rear tire. The handling was horrible. The bike would wander in the straits and in corners it felt like you were going down because of flexing. If you were out with the bike and found it missing you can make it home safely if you take it easy but I would not ride it until it is fixed.

          Hi Jeff,
I accidentally broke mine before too. I don't think you will remove it with an easy out because there are no threads in that part of the swingarm. Carefully drill it out and pick up a stainless steel bolt, washer and a nylon lock nut from a hardware store. That will work fine.
          Good luck,
