CARBS dazed & confused

I didn't see any mention it so I figured I would ask....

Did you replace the bowl gaskets when you rebuilt the carbs? You might want to make sure they are not interfering with the floats. Many people reported having to trim them back... Also, you might want to read up on other threads about plastic floats b/c IIRC the float setting is different for them as they seem more buoyant.

As mentioned previously, make sure your carbs are compatible with the rebuild kits you bought... GL!

Going back

Sick as a dog today, grand son passed me his flue. I've descided to put it all back to original. Put my old float seats and needles in, set the old brass floats back in and back to 25.7. May or may not reinstall the octy.Depends on how much energy I have tommorrow. I picked up a one gallon lawn mower tank this am and will build a shelf above my carb station and do the leak down test. Put everything back the way it was. It's supposed to stop raining next Tuesday. I'll retune him sunday after church. Then I'm going to ride the livin sh.t out him.
So what I learned from this is that the individual bowl test won't work on the old carbs. Next that the chinese plastic floats are garbage. Viton tipped needles don't work well in the old carbs and last but not least. If it's working good, leave it the hell alone.

Mack, the seats can be polished with a Q'tip and chrome polish and re-used. The steel tip needles need to be replaced more often, they develop a wear ring. Z1 has the correct needles. I just did this to my 79 Special carbs and now the garage doesn't stink like fuel anymore. Good luck!
