  • 750 and 1100 interchangable parts question

I picked up an 82 XJ1100 and by the sounds of it Im going to have to do the dremel tool fix because trying to take off in first gear is impossible,it sounds and acts like a loose chain on a worn sprocket the clunk, clunk, clunk and no go unless i really babey the clutch out until i get going and then i cant give it gas or it will start doing it again(very upsetting because i bought it from a guy that said there was nothing wrong with the bike except clean the carbs and we all know this dont happen instantly by sitting in the garage)anyways heres my question,I have parts bike 82 XJ750 does anyone know if those gears out of the 750 will interchange and go right into the 1100?i dont want to tear the 750 apart without knowing first because the 750 is a good motor minus the carbs,if they will interchange then i think that would be the way to go,thanks in advance

I would say it's very very very unlikely. I don't think any of the other bikes use the same gears as the 1100's. But unless they are too chewed up to fix you should be able to do the dremel fix on them and get them back up and running anyways. the contact patch on the gears is really small, so it takes very little rounding of the gears to make them slip like that.

Jerry82, 95% of us just refurbish the worn gears our transmissions. If you want new gears, they are about $125 apiece, you'll need at least 2.
