ON IT. I wish I could have shared the joy in Karla's voice when I said we could fix it in time for the trip. Just trust me, it was priceless. THANK YOU.

Karla just confirmed why she really is the best woman in the world.....
"Hey honey, before you pull that CCT off, stop and listen to me.... I don't know about you, but I really only want to fix this ONCE. So, how about we hop on your Ninja and ride to ABQ together. You order the auto CCT tomorrow and get a hold of your friend in Grand Junction, see if maybe he'd come out next weekend and lend us a hand. Either way, stop what you're doing and lets just leave this bike be until we can get a auto CCT on it."
Really guys. Don't think I could've done any better. This all worked out great, as I had to go rescue a stranded friend who's stator wires fried under his seat, so I didn't even get HOME until 6pm.
So, I'll buy a auto CCT tomorrow on ebay and get on the horn with motoman. Two weeks vacation does NOT make a life.

Ken, my apologies, temporary as we intend to go with an auto CCT as recommended by about everyone here.
Thanks Motoman. I'll be in touch tomorrow once I figure out when I can get an auto CCT here. Maybe get together next weekend? Dinner and beer is on us and we have an air mattress as long as you don't mind 2 dogs and 2 cats. Two weeks vacation does NOT make a life.

Heck, after several months of no issues with either of my runners ,In the last couple of weeks Ive had a complete hd lamp failure on the SF(of course found out at dusk about 12 miles from home yesterday), a fork seal leak on the XJ with the accompanying soaked pads , this morning a battery issue on the XJ, last week a fuel leak in the SF octopus valve, a squealing speedo on the XJ. Most all these could be dealt with on a trip but certainly easier at the home barn. Hopefully I'm good for a while. Not sure if your quite ready mechanically to take such a long road trip on the XJ yet .Unless you have deep pockets Id hate to see you leave it behind far from home.
It will come but find as many bugs close to home as you can and with that the mechanical know-how that a road trip requires to deal with the expected unexpected.
P.S. I have no particular fascinations with the auto cct. There are and always will be far more XS/XJ's running perfectly fine without it. Myself I would coil it or maybe re-thread it up a size. To each his own.79SF

I definitely understand where you're coming from, but we're never gonna find all the bugs as your experience has shown! This is a relatively short trip, only 1k max round trip. MUCH shorter than a 2600-3000 mile round trip to NC at the end of July. Two weeks vacation does NOT make a life.
