The one you found will work (I have one in mine) you do need to file just a little bit out of the inside of the top hole (it will really only fit in the hole one way).

There is also this auction. Little more money but you get 2 and could sell one of them.

If you want a true plug and play fit there is this one, no buy it now and they have been know to go to ridiculous prices.

Could make this guy an offer as well and see if you can get it cheap.

Don't mind a little filing, thanks for seeing that other auction with 2. No clue what to do with the rest of the stuff, just toss? Thanks so much!

Yeah I would probably toss it, unless you have a vision you want a cam chains for!

Lol that I do not.... Any thoughts on the helicoil as a temporary patch good for a few thousand miles?

Helicoils work great, probably cost.the same or more.than the auto tensioner though.

Yeah, but available NOW so I can get the bike back on the road in time to ride to Albuquerque this weekend. Kinda a temporary fix. THANKS, sounds like it'll do for now.

If you do the Helicoils then just sit back and watch ebay for auto ccts. You can get them.cheaper just takes time.

And you two are going to feel a real sense of ownership in the bike having done all this work yourself and understanding how to do it. For the most part, if you do things carefully, they go well, except for the stupid cam chain adjuster, which I fortunately have two extras sitting around for just in case until I get an auto one.

The current tensioner on my 1100 is heli coil repaired at the lockdown. It is holding just fine. I read at this site to prevent overtightening/stripping of the lock bolt threads to use a torque wrench OR to use a socket on a handledriver (screwdriver handle for your socket). I will eventually do the Vmax/Vison CCT upgrade but in the meantime I simply do not let the throttle freely snap back to home position when I am up in the RPMs. I read here that instant-sudden deceleration can cause the chain to push back on the adjustment plunger. Good luck and be patient.

Good idea about the handledriver. I'll see if I can make that happen. I do NOT have a torque wrench that goes lower than 10lbs, so yes I was using the "it's only 6 and 4lbs so don't over tighten" method. Clearly I overtightened.

Question: When you added the helicoil, did you remove the CCT?

Also, how do you know if your helicoil repaired CCT isn't holding? Besides the chain skipping and engine going pop?

Can anyone tell me if it is required that I remove the CCT in order to tap and install a helicoil?

If it is required, can I put it on the center stand, set the timing to C and just take it off? Or do I have to get into the engine to make sure the chain doesn't move?

I have to get this fixed tonight or the trip is out pretty much. I'm done with work here shortly, and there's no point in going and buying a helicoil if installing it requires steps beyond my abilities.

                            ****.... anyone please?

If I have to crack into the engine (remove the CCT) I have to admit I'm in over my head and shouldn't be doing this and the trip is toast.

If I don't have to crack open the engine (don't have to remove the CCT) then I should be able to complete the helicoil fix myself.

I don't want to do this wrong and ruin the entire engine. I've sent PMs to multiple people that have posted here and no one has responded. A little extra nudge of help here is all I need. I really really really REALLY don't want to touch ANYTHING until I confirm the correct way to do this!!

                              nope

Just rotate the engine clockwisw to the c mark. Then you can pull the tensioner. Just don't rotate the engine again until it is back in.
