  • Wheel Bearings

I went and had my new tires put on recently and the rear had a slight wobble even after balancing. The guy told me I need new bearings but, the left side (unobtainium, until recently....Atlanta has them) seems fine. My spacers inbetween the bearings had a lot of play in them, not sure if that is normal without the collar and oil seal on or not. I don't wanna pull the bearings if I don't have to. I pulled the inside diameter and looked at the outside of the left side and everything looks fine. No clunky rolling. The right side seems like it is a bit clunky when it rolls. I don't know the spring in the oil seals purpose but it was mangled, and in half...not sure if it is supposed to be. Is there a place that would have something to replace it, or is a new seal in order. Not sure if this will fix the wobble but if anyone has any suggestions I am all ears. Brake pads come Wed. and I wanna ride!!!

I would replace that right rear bearing, they are cheap. The P/N and size is 6304 2RS 20X52X15. They are all over eBay or at your local bearing shop.

You should be able to re-use the right side oil seal unless it is badly damaged. The r/s bearing is pre-greased and has it's own seals. You will notice slop in the spacers until the axle is installed and tightened down, due to the design of the left side bearing.

PS, if you really need that r/s outer seal, here it is...

The left side seal is obsolete, gonna have to re-use yours.

              Oil seal

I am assuming that spring that is inside the oil seal is needed to keep pressure on the axel. I would think I could find one of them in a hardware store. Is the spring something that is absolutely necessary or is it a ride and see type of thing if it affects it that much?

I consider that spring necessary for the seal to perform it's intended function. I wouldn't consider trying to replace the spring alone when a whole new seal is just under $10 shipped ...

P.S. looks like that seal is the same for all the XS11's... I ordered one as mine is kinda wore out... I also looked up the torque spec for the rear axle and its 108 lbft.
