i grenaded my transmission in my 82 xj1100. i have completely stripped 5 differnt gears in the trans. i have removed the counter shaft and have tried to take the bottom case off, but i havent been able to remove the bottom case, i believe i have removed all the bolts (top and bottom) and am baffled, i guess i should invest the $30 bucks for the clymer manual for the xs1100.

So FLB,
Did you actually strip the contact splines between the gears on the counter shaft, and the other gears further down in the case?? Some pictures would be nice to see this feat!! What were the symptoms that lead to this conclusion/event? Cause if you were just all of a sudden not able to shift gears, then it could have been a variety of things causing this, not just the actual gears, which are quite sturdy and durable!!
Also I'm not totally sure of your terminology and it's accuracy!? You state the counter shaft, so I'm assuming that you were able to get this batch of gears out of the tranny!! But now you can't get the engine case halves split, separated! According to the manual there are 34 case bolts, and they are all numbered on the case. 1-22 are from the bottom, 23-34 are from the top!! It makes a special note about not forgetting #32, which is set deeper in the top rear end of the case!
But, yes, a manual will be needed, for both putting it back together with the proper torquing sequences and amounts, and such!! HTH, Good Luck.

I would definately recommend the Cylmer repair manual. I found it really cheap at www.motorcyclebooks.com It was in brand new condition (shrink wrapped and all) for more than $10 less than straight from Cylmer.com Good luck.Tony K.

Theres a few bolts inside the case... one of the ones that hold the oil pump, and.... a few others... 3 all together I think. Not too sure tho.
LPIf it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.

I think I had a shifter fork break and the trans went into 2 gears at once. I had just shifted from 4th to 5th when it happened. First gear in the bike was gone and 2nd was jumping. I should have torn it down and fixed it. Anyone wanna buy an "82 xj1100?
