Nate, if the brace isn't clamped to the lowers, it's just decoration...

If the outer clamps bolts are tight and it's still not clamping down solid, remove the outside clamp halves and file the ends until it does clamp...

Nate, if the inner lower pieces have the raised legs for the top brace to clear the fender, that is for the special.....no raised legs and mounts flat on the inner pieces is for the Standard. May want to get a hold of TKat and explain the problem........Filing will NOT work as it will become oval, no longer uniform round as there is enough diamater difference between the two.

Nate - The rubber boots just lift up, and the brace clamps HARD onto the fork lowers. Here are some pictures as an example.

The difference is only .030" (2.270" vs 2.240"), so I wouldn't hesitate to file the ends to shrink the hole size. If it's not clamping, it can't be by very much. Yes, it will 'oval' it to a degree by filing the ends, but the diameter difference is less than 2%. The only other option is another brace....

After I thought about it, there is another option....

If you picked up some .015" shim stock (two pieces about 7" long by 1/2"), you could shim the smaller standard forks out to the right size.

Nate I got a Tkat off of eBay and it was from a special and I had the same problem. I sent Russell. An email and returned the special fb to him and he sent me a brand new standard.

The brace is a standard brace. I got it off ebay and it came off a standard. It is not the higher rise brace like the special ones are though. It just don't fit.

Nate, do you have a picture of the brace. I'm wondering if it's actually a TKat brace or maybe some other brace instead. I know the guy said it was, but with it not fitting like it's supposed to makes me think it's something other than what it's supposed to be.

                        i wonder..

i wonder if the lip has just not caught on it - try taking it loose and sliding the sides in from each side to catch the fork rubber groove - maybe it won't go down over the groove but has to slide into the gap sideways?

hard to tell from pic but looks like i can see that groove under the brace which says its not sliding down ALL the way.

This pic was from a few weeks ago. In the pic the brace is not sitting down all the way but it slides right down to the stop on the fork lowers.

Nate, that's not a Tkat brace; it's hard to see, but it looks like either a Superbrace or maybe a Telefix. If it's three pieces (center, two clamps) it's a Superbrace. Four pieces, it's a Telefix.

That may not even be a XS brace. Early Sportsters used a similar brace on their 35mm forks, that may be what you have.

                                early version?

Maybe its an early version of a tkat brace?

I looked at Superbrace and Telefix sites - neither has the single allen hole setup seen on Nates - and they are embossed - you'd have a name on it.

I seems to have a small "X" factor to the center portion similar to tkat's current design - ask and maybe he had an original design that wasn't stacked?
