  • XJ11 Spooge hole

Boy have I been making a lot of posts lately, I'm really trying to get my bike in safe road condition. Hopefully not only I will get the answers I need but someone else down the line will find the answers in a search...

So Another question is the spooge hole on the front MC of the XJ11. I've looked here http://tinyurl.com/4xttu55 but my MC does not look like this. There are two tiny holes on the bottom of the reservoir but that's not under the diaphragm in the MC. I'm concerned about running a wire through these holes for fear of puncturing the diaphragm if it's below the holes. It would suck to damage an otherwise good MC.

As best I can tell, there seems to be a free flow of brake fluid from the reservoir when I squeeze the brake lever and plug the output from the MC; when I do that, there's significant pressure there so perhaps I have no concerns with a plugged spooge hole on this MC? I'm new to this so I need advice...

Problem was that it was almost impossible to squeeze the front brake and get it to work properly. I've just rehabbed the front caliper and have a SS braid line to put on it. It might could be OK at this point but I had wanted to run a wire through the spooge hole if only out of principle.

Thoughts on whether I need to ream the spooge hole & if so, where is the thing?

    Thanks

If the stuff wasn't cruddy and the brakes aren't hanging up you're probably fine. I haven't had to bother with mine, although I'm thinking about a MC rebuild this fall. The primary symptom of spooge hole problems is that the brake won't release. If they release fine, then the hole isn't plugged, as that's the relief and return hole for the MC.

if I had it or down that far I would pull the piston and make sure things are clean and clear inside there then you don't have to worry be a poking a hole in the seal cause its not in there.

Well... After I bought it last fall I noticed an issue where when I turned the wheel after using the brakes, it had issues in turning (I forget which way, r or l) so I thought to clean the entire brake system, spooge hole & all. But I don't seem to find any obvious problems with the right brake at this moment.

Maybe the problem is with the left brake or maybe it was caliper related?

Pics of the XJ front MC spooge hole can be found in this thread:

To my knowledge there is no diaphram under either of the 2 holes.
