    Diaphragms are here!

Got them today, I will be putting them on a set of slides tomorrow (I hope). Like usual, when I want/need to do something I end up working. We have a big engineering change on some VW molds and they want them fast. The tool guys get told we get no overtime when we need it to get work done on time, but now all of the sudden we have manditory OT with no warning. Figures. Oh well, at least I have a job so I'm not complaining. TC, I will try to get pictures of the process. Expect stupid questions about posting them.

      Installed

I finally got the chance to put the diaphragms on the spare 78/79 slides. Yeah TC, I know you want pictures, but please bear with me. First, the hardest part is applying the sidecuts to the plastic rings holding the old diaphragms on. The nexts hardest thing is trying to stop grinning after you slide the diaphragm on the slide. It is TOO easy. The rubber ring grips the top of the slide tightly, so I can't see there being any issues there. There is a small dimple on the top of the JBM part that I lined up with my bleed hole, so I know where the hole is without taking the slide out. That will make it easy to line up the bleeder hole on the engine side of the carb. I noticed 2 things. First, the ring that fits in the top of the carb is thicker than the stock one. It pretty much guarrenties a good seal, plus it doesn't try to pull out or actively fight you when assemble the top cover. The other thing I noticed is the rubber ring allows the slide to come down all of the way. By that I mean it rests on the top of the emulsion jet. I don't know why that would be a problem since the jet is cut out in the back, so it isn't sealed off. Of course when the motor starts demanding air the slide is going to lift. Thing have been hectic around here lately, but I will try to get pictures of the diaphragms on the slides before I put them in the 79SF. If it works well I am going to be doing this to the 79F carb set. IMHO it is looking good.
