RE: Octy
I had removed the "octy" as I found it was just in my way and of no use to me. The only time I touch my petcocks is to turn them to reserve I have not shut them off in three years and I have had no leakage, flooding or massive gas spills, NADA! If you get leakage there is something wrong with your carb, floats sunk, dirt or ??? I have the front nipples connected to each other, the rear ones each have an in-line filter then connected to a tee then a short straight line, another tee to connect to the carbs. simple, clean and if I need to get under the tank I have enough line to move it to the side enough to gain access to my wiring and etc. My air box was removed by the PO and had pod filters but had been way over jetted. Love this bike and she has been good to me RIDE SAFE-BE ALERTJust ME and my 82 XJ 1100. XJ1100 carburators concern
I had problems cranking my bike during the middle of the winter.... the battery ran down trying to crank the bike. Two of the carbs weren't receiving fuel, (which I discovered after opening the drain screw on each bowl). To make a long story short, I grudingly removed the carb bank and put it in a big plastic bag to deal with later.
The carbs had been running fine before winter. Also, the bike was put up with STA-BIL in the fuel tank. Looking at the carb bank a few days ago, there is some dust on the inlet from the engine side and the air breather side.
1) Can I pour fuel in each carbs. opening, to adequately flush the areas that are dusty and let the fuel drain through the bowl drain screws?
Still not sure why fuel was not running in two as it was in the other two. There are inline filters on both lines feeding the carb. As I recall, the filters were not filling as they usually did.
I have read most of the posts made and realize there are alot of variables you need to know to sufficently answer my concern, which is, hoping the carburators don't have to be broken down. Most of the common sense concerns I have considered so for now just the one question.

Hey Dodjh,
WHICH 2 carbs were not receiving fuel? Were they paired 1-2 and 3-4....most likely, but important diagnostic/troubleshooting step.
If paired above, then could be clogged fuel "T" that joins both carbs...have seen/heard folks with lots of grunge in there.
Okay, I see they are XJ carbs, so they have the float vent built into the intake bell, so doubltful that it was clogged.
So...either the petcock wasn't flowing, or the floats/valves were possibly stuck shut, or restriction/blockage in line to carbs.
