    black chrome exhaust

    I am trying to locate a company that can do black chrome on my mns exhaust the ones I found either can't do a whole exhaust or another plater never heard of black chrome how do you figure that, the one I found that can wanted a fortune to do it I dont think I like the look of jet-hot so they will be my last option I'am in NY State but dont care where I have to send them

    Talk to local places and just have it ceramic coated. It will look almost identical and it will be more resilient over time. Also make sure the inside is coated as well.

      From what I have seen on the forum over the years, the black chrome is going to be VERY expensive no matter where you find to do it.

        I don't know what expensive is to you, but i wouldn't let go of my MNS exhaust for very cheap. you might find a set for around a $1000.00 i think. Used of course. I think the ceramic is the way to go.

          You've got several problems here; first, most platers won't replate a used exhaust as the internal contamination from use will foul their plating tanks. Next, 'black chrome' is a special process; and worse yet, Yamaha used a special, 'propriatary' process that was different from 'normal' black chrome, so finding someone to exactly duplicate it will be all but impossible. Plating has gotten obscenely expensive, and a $1K+ price wouldn't at all surprise me. Another issue is the original plating was done with the exhaust in pieces, then it was welded together. Without doing the replate the same way, you'll have problems getting the plating into all the places. So in terms of getting this done, a Jet-hot coating will be your most available, least costly choice.

          You do have one other choice though; ceramic coating. Not quite the same as Jet-hot, but more 'color' choices are available, so you may be able to get a closer match. Also expensive, and the downside is it's much more susceptible to rock chipping. Check Hemmings for providers.

            On the topic of black chrome exhaust systems does anyone know what you use to polish them? The set I recently purchased has some rust on the header pipes and I am hesitant to try regular chrome polish on them.
