    Oil level insight class.

This bike has been a non-runner for 8 to 10 years. I have changed all the fluids, cleaned and set the carburetor and have started it maybe two dozen times. The carburetors are an ongoing challenge.

With the bike on the center stand, the oil level in the side class is at the top mark. When I start the bike the coil level disappears in the site class. as soon as I turn off the engine the oil level returns the high mark on the sight glass. Is this supposed to happen?

    Thanks in advance, David

Yes it is. When the engine is running, oil is being picked up in the pan and pumped into all of the bearings, etc. When you shut it off, the oil drains back into the pan. That's the short of it.

Thanks, Marty. Looking at that empty sight glass made me nervous.

                Front master cylinder

When I pumped the brake lever to drain the lines of the old fluid I may have, repeatedly, pulled the brake lever all the way to the handlebar. I want to disassemble the MC to see if I turn the rubber grommet backwards.

I have the MC off the bike. I remove the brake lever I remove the little rubber seal on the and of the piston. I found the cir-clip but did not have any tool to remove it. I took the MC to the local cycle Selvage and had them remove the cir-clip.

Now I am looking at the end of the plunger at the circlet and and trying to figure out how to pull it out of the master cylinder. I need some suggestions how to remove the plunger before I start pounding on it with my 3 pound dead blow hammer.

This is something I can insert in the opposite end and pound the plunger out or is there some way to pull it out the and?

                Thanks, David

David, those get corrosion in the end of the bore (well, all over in the bore, but worst there), so yes, knocking it out by putting something in through the banjo bolt hole is the usual method. But use something with a flat or blunt end, as anything sharp can damage the seal. A short length of 1/4" rod works well, and don't use any more force than needed.

After you get everything cleaned, you may need to hone the bore lightly for free movement of the piston.

Thanks Steve. The 1/4" rod worked like a charm.

I am rebuilding the MC with a new kit.

                      Front brakes won't Pressurize

When I purchased this bike the cap and diaphragm were off of the front MC. I just finished rebuilding the MC and I used this method to fill the system with brake fluid:

                      http://www.benefiscal.co.uk/forum/in...p?topic=1842.0

I had already bled the MC by working the brake lever and opening and closing banjo bolt hole with my finger. I had the pressure build up high enough that I could squirt fluid across the garage. I then filled the lines from the bottom up, bolted the brake line to the MC with the banjo bowl.

I can pump the lever seemingly forever and I cannot get the pressure build up What should I try next?
