  • My First Project

I purchase this xs1100sh last year for $750.00. It was kept in a heated storage facility for ten years prior to that. It was auctioned off for non-payment of the storage fees. It is in amazing condition.

I just sold my xj1100 so now I can get to work "reconditioning" this bike.

I have the tank (needs paint), side covers and seat.

OK, put your hands up over your head and interlace your fingers, you are under arrest for grand theft!!!! That is one VERY nice looking SH especially for that money!!!

You probably already know that is not the stock speedo, so you have no idea how many miles are really on it. Interestingly enough my first SH had a dent about exactly like that in the same place on the right side muffler.

That bike should give you ALOT of miles and miles of smiles!!!

      Hi David,
this the same bike that has a seized clutch?
And it's been in storage for 10 years before you got it and you never had it running?
More or less a given that the clutch plates are stuck together with dried up oil.
There's a post on start-up procedures after long storage, best you go through it from first to last.

Didn't the canadian versions get the kilometer speedo instead of the 85 mph US one..?

          Hi Don,
um, our Dave is another effin' Canadian and so is his bargain bike.
Not that it couldn't be a replacement but that's the stock metric speedo. Note that the odometer reading translates to 13,361 miles.

Caught me napping fellas. I guess it would be a trick to get one of these up to 240 MPH!

Turbo + Nitrous + something else (towed by a jet car?)

I wouldn't want to be on it. I don't think the brakes would work.

It would be kinda fun to watch though, at least once.

Looks like someone put some work in that thing. Is that the exhaust you bought or the one you are replacing? Will it be hard to get the title?

Shouldn't be hard to get a title at all... here in Saskatchewan all you need is a bill of sale and you can register and insure it. Starting this year they don't even do inspections anymore to verify the serial numbers.

Same bike Fred. I filled it with oil. I already cleaned the carbs.I'll install the exhaust and battery tomorrow, and see if it will start.

Thanks DGXSER. It needed a battery. It needs new tires. I am going to do a complete brake rebuild, maybe SS lines. I will change drive fluids.

Mike is right. I took the bill of sale to the Ministry of Transport here in Ontario and got the title (un-plated). I'll use the plate from the xj1100 I just sold.

That is the exhaust I am replacing. Here is the link to the pics of the "new" exhaust.

Well I did not get my bike running yesterday. I spent most of the day buffing the exhaust system. It has the usual rust pitting on the inside of the mufflers just behind the crossover pipe.

Is there any polish or ? I can apply to complete exhaust system to protect from it rusting out.

I have another question. The PO that bought the bike at auction put a small battery in it to work on the lights etc. He connected the + and - cables. I have the correct battery ready to install and I noticed a short (3"), thick black wire attached to the solenoid. It looks like a ground wire. Where does the other end of that wire attach?

Are you talking about the positive cable to the solenoid form the battery?

See the upper black wire/cable from the solenoid in this pic...
