  • # of 1981 XS 1100 LH (Midnight Special ) sold

Does anyone know of a website/ resource to find out how many '81 1100 Midnight Specials were sold here in Canada ? Insurance for a 'collector' bike is WAY cheaper here ! Thanks ! Brian

I doubt if you'll find anything... There's not even any firm numbers on how many were built, much less where they were sold. You'll hear various numbers thrown around (250 per year, 1 or 2 per dealer) but given how many still exist 30 years later, the amount of parts that show up on Ebay and elsewhere, and the range of reported serial numbers, the total is undoubtably much higher than that.

If you're trying to establish value, most are worth little more than their plainer brothers. A super clean, near-new all-original MNS sold for about $4500 recently, but ones that reflect their age aren't getting any premium to speak of. Restoring one is all-but-impossible, due to the special propriatary finishes Yamaha used.

I forgot to say that the framenumber is 4H3-000395 , so this i should be LG nr 295 (the first one was 4H3-000101) My other LG has framenumber 4H3-000415. I dont know how many LG`s YAMAHA made, but if there was made one one every number I guess over 2000 because I have seen higher framenumbers then 4H3-002200. My guess is that the LG is made in less numbers, but thats a guess just based on the fact that they are not as often to find on ebay as the LG
