Let me know when you want to reset those carbs back up. I'm sure they will be out with such a big difference in valve clearance.

Well it never fails. I got everything buttoned up and the bike refuses to start again.

I bet it's 'cause the weather's nice again.

I installed the new coils, and while she sounds pretty rough (I imagine the tune is way off after adjusting those valves) she did start up!

Ouch! I found a place about 30 minutes away that had em for $4 each. It's not free but it's supporting a local business and it supports my need for instant gratification.

                Progress!

Rob stopped back by with those wonderful tools of his.

I took the bike out yesterday and it feels like it's running well. I'm trying to find somewhere to do proper plug chops, but I can't find anywhere in my area. I did get her on the highway for a bit and checked the plugs when I got home. I tried to keep it right around 4k RPMs until I killed it in the driveway. All 4 plugs look like this, but I'm not quite sure how to read them.

Well, IMHO, the right side looks good, and it would be interesting to know what direction the left side faced when in the head. The discoloration would seem to indicate that some substance was impinging on the plug, and the combustion wasn't able to burn it off. Lets see what others think. CZ

The ground strap looks heated only about half way down and the ring at the top of the well is dry and black so the mixture is rich and/or the spark plug never fully warmed up and is running a little cool. That could be caused by the short run time at the relatively low RPM of the pilot/main jet transition range of the carburetors before the spark plug was removed and photographed.

Also, it could be a reflection from the camera but it looks like there is some engine oil on the spark plug threads. If it's not caused by the camera flash then the valve seals/guides are leaking and the plug isn't burning off all of the oil.

I didn't notice oil on the threads, but I'll clean them up and take another look. I wasn't really looking to be honest.

                      Thanks for the info!
