  • I have searched around and I am looking for a few exact answers: Inverted Fork Swap

    Hey XS11.com

I am looking for some answers to my long debated inverted for swap.

I have read that the Hyabusa front end is the easiest to use on the XS chassis for whatever reason. I have a line on a great condition 06 GSXR750 front end with the dual tokico calipers.

My questions arrise at weather or not the GSXR front end will be too short for my bike. I am not worried mostly with ground clearence, the stock Special front end has been lowered 2 1/8".

Can I press out the GSXR stem and Press in the XS stem or will I need to have custom Tapered bearing made? What is the most painless way to do this?

My XS front end needs the forks rebuild, the calipers rebuilt, new rotors, wheel bearings and neck bearings, If I can do the swap for relatively the same price, Im going to.

Please reply with your expiriences in this area, again, I have search the interweb for this information and gotten many mixed reviews.

And if this particular idea is unreasonable, I have a special which I would like to at least convert to standard forks.

    This would require:
    Standard trees,
    Standard forks,
    Standard front Calipers

Can I reuse my Special Wheel and Rotors?

Yes, that is all correct, wheel and rotors the same. Might need the speedometer hub from the Standard though.

I can't help you with exact answers, but I think I can be helpful with your GSXR questions.

I found a while ago a list (i think I found a link to it on a cafe racer site) that had the stem diameter, bearing sizes, and fork lengths of like a million different bikes. If you do a little google searching I'm sure you could turn up the list and figure out the specs for the gsxr front and then compare them to the xs1100 front (or the busa front because thats a known swap)

2nd idea is go take a look around the uk forum (but first figure out what they call a gsxr in Europe) and see if anyone there has done the swap. The guys over there do a lot more modding and swapping then most the folks on this forum do. Maybe even try a post and see if anyone else has already researched it. A google search for "xs11 uk" should turn up the uk forum home page.

For the Standard to Special swap, I believe you will also need the Standard fender. Wheel, and rotors all direct swap. Come to think of it, not sure the axle would be the same. Never seen how that mounts on the Standard models.

The axle is the same for both types. It clamps on the left side with a cap below the fork leg on a Standard.

No fair, I was going to send him there. Now you made me waste my 1000'th post.

There is a nice FJ fork swap that has been done by a few individuals. You wont get the advantages of the better calipers on those gixer forks but there are other options to using the old stock XS calipers.

OK here is my 1000'th post, dont I get a 1000 virgins or something? Thought it was in my contract...
