    I have an 80 mns which I have'nt run in several years and am in the process of getting it running. What I would like to know is how to tell what model I have also has any one ever repainted one of these mainly the exhaust and the motor

    How to tell what model you have, well, a 1980 Midnight special is about as descriptive as you get for what model. Now if you are nto certain it truly IS a MNS, then look at the VIN on the steering neck. Should match engine VIN as well on a 100% stock machine. But engines do get swapped on these bikes.

    Engines get repainted all the time, search for "rebuild" threads and you will most likely find more than a few repainted engine stories. Exhaust, not as often. The stock MNS had a black chrome on th eexhaust, nye impossible to repair and dang expensive to replicate. You could get a ceramic coating applied like Jet-Hot or the like. I believe it comes in black.
