  • Replacement Starter Button

I was going to start my bike, turned the key on, and the starter button fell out and rolled away. Didn't even touch it. I now have to carry it in my pocket and stick it in place whenever I want to start it. I also have to take it out and pocket it while I'm riding. The spring seems to stay in there. I'm gonna try a wrap-it-with-electrical-tape temporary fix.

I seem to remember that someone here makes and sells replacement starter buttons or switches. Who is that? I need to fix this thing cause next I've also gotta fix a really bad oil leak at the valve cover gasket.

Stan, Tkat had (has?) starter buttons. Search the archive too.

Not sure offhand if there is a valve cover gasket tip. They
are pricey, but you can make one out of gasket material, tracing
from your old one. Gasket is relatively easy.

My 78E has a replacement starter button. I'd know it anywhere.
It's from your friendly local store with electrical stuff.
OK, if u want original look , it won't do. But it works and it's cheap.
Any button will do, just check the diameter. Installing should be no problem.

Tkat posted on the mailing list that he willnot be on the new forum. He also said he will continue to supply fork braces and the metal starter/horn buttons. email him at tkat@tkat.com. He will send you starter buttons and only asks that you donate to a local non-profit charity, like the Humane Society. I got the metal buttons in my bike and love them.
