    Are the side covers on the 1978 and 1979 standard models interchangeable?

      funny how these side covers are always missing on bikes. And good ones are not easy to find. thanks.

        Cause no one knows that there is a lock on the left side one and they just rip it off and then say oh sh*t there is a lock there!

          simple solution

          1 of those little mini bungee cords holds them in place very well without being visible

            Until they stretch out and it tries to fall off DAMHIKIJD

            Better to just fix the thing. It's amazing what a little super glue and some baking soda will do, followed of course by some sanding and filing. The lock works just like original now.

              What's superglue and baking soda do? It sounds like a good idea that I've never heard of......

                If you put a little line of baking soda on cracked plastic and drip superglue on it to create a sort of paste it creates a very strong bond. I've done it on side covers in the past and it holds very well.

                  I go the other way around. Put some superglue on the surface, then sprinkle some baking soda on it. Then repeat. continue till it's built up a little bigger than you need. Let it cure overnight and then file and sand down to size and shape. Sands and shapes almost like the original material and can even be painted.

                    I use abs shavings (old tv case) dissolved in acetone. Good for windjammer repairs too.
