  • 1980G fork disassembly

I have an 80G and WAS trying to replace the seals. All was well untill I tried to remove the allen bolt in the bottom to separate the tubes. Now it just spins. Won't loosen, won't tighten. I've searched the forum and I found something about putting a threaded rod with nuts jammed on the end to hold the inner damper, but I don't think that applies to this model. I look down my tube and it looks like a square 3/8 drive socket in the bottom. But it's not. Anyone out there with the answer?

Long threaded rod with 2-3/4" (19mm to be exact) nuts locked against each other on each end so they wont come off. Rod will have to be long enough to come out of the top tube so you(or your helper) can hold it with a wrench.
