  • I Got the Beast Running!

All she needs is a Carb Sync and she'll be in much better shape...

In case anyone is wondering I found those pod filters on Ebay cost me about $6 a piece...

I want to lower the rear end by about 3 inches or so by getting smaller struts/springs...has anyone done that? and does it work?...Then i want to get a little more progressive seat...and more agressive handlebars, maybe clubmans, but i'm actually thinking about throwing on a pair of ProTapers...then I'm going to throw on a digital Speedo and Tach, which will be interesting to see on the Tach side of things...and then strip her down and give her a new dress to wear...what does everyone think?

That's a nice bike . You have a lot planned for it which I am sure will look great but if I owned it I would put the air box and rear grab rail back on and show it off

Keep the pics coming with any changes you make.

The digital tack will need to be connected to a coil. The electronic tach on the XS1100 works off the charging system, not a cable drive like most from that time. The bike is looking good, and once you get the sync done, it should be VERY SMOOTH! If you plan on keeping the bike, buy the sync tool and do it yourself! It's about $115 for the four gauge setup, or about $100 for a shop to try and do it!

        Re:

Tinman, I dont have the rear grab bar, or i'd have it on right now... and as for the stock airbox, That is one heck of a pain in the bedonky to put back on...i've thought about modifying it not for function but for the looks...

I believe you can modify the airbox to make it a lot easier to deal with.

And if you take OE parts off, keep them in case you ever want to sell it. Worth more as a rule if stock.Or at least appeal to more buyers

If you lower it, be prepared to shorten your side stand, and maybe remove your center stand. Your angle on the corners will be reduced as well.

                I've heard that kickstart

can break your leg - just be careful. It was emergency and eventually left off altogether.

                Looks nice so far.

IIRC, the XS 850 swivel kickstart lever is plug 'n play.

As bikerphil said you can get an XS850 folding kick lever not many dollars and they work great, I have one on my '80G.

Hey, if you haven't already tossed the center stand I'd be happy to buy it from you, can you bring to the rally? The P.O. broke/tore off the center stand on the '79 Special I'm building and there are holes in the frame so I need a good stand to have new tabs welded on the right spot on the frame when it's repaired.

                        Re:

3Phase, I would gladly bring the center stand for you if i come to the Rally in June...Im not possitive if i'm coming yet or not but only for 2 reasons, dont know how the money will be sitting at that point yet...should be ok though, i always make the money side work when i want it, but the other reason is based on how late I get out of work...being that I mis Calculated the drive time i just googled it and I'm almost 6 Hrs away according to that...Ive found that the drive time by googles clock when im in my truck is always off, but when im on my bike it seems pretty close to right on, due to having to stop for gas and rest...

If I Dont make it out there then I'll def. ship it to you, or depending on how close to SIMI Valley you are...I could take a Sat. Ride out to you. Heck I could even ride it out to you before June...Up to you on that side of things...simi valley is close enough to make a weekend of things...even if i got out of work at 6pm. i'd still be able to make it out there by 9 or 10 at night, could do a Sat. Ride out in your neck of the woods, thats all up to you though...PM me we can talk it out...

Hmm ... I don't know that I'd ride Hwy 58 at night on an unproven, newly-repaired bike, either. That'd be bound to raise more than a few hares if you catch my drift.

I'm going to Santa Cruz next weekend for the Dream Machines event but I'll have to make a run to Aridzona sometime after I get back and I usually go through 29 Palms on the way out. It's a nice ride through the deserted desert on an XS. My buddy's supposed to be getting some new solar panels and a 12V submersible pump for the well and he wants some help putting it all together so his wife doesn't have to use ye olde hand pump and a bucket for more than a couple of hours.

Id ride my zuki, as of right now its much more reliable...though once the xs is running good that seems more comfy...thats why i asked about whether anyone would be offended if i didn't ride the xs for the june meet up...
